One hundred and fifty people attended the annual picnic, "the Cultural Connection", sponsored by the Greater MN Racial Justice Project, ACLU-MN on August 15th, 2007. This was the largest crowd in attendance since the event began three years ago. In an effort to build community, this year's GMRJP picnic organizers partnered with many other non-profit organizations to pool contributions, door prizes, and volunteers. The picnic was held under a big tent at the UpNorth Marina on Lake Irving in Bemidji, MN. In addition to feasting on burgers, brats, salads, and cake, pontoon rides were given, a door prize drawing was held, and music was provided by local folk musicians. Partnering organizations: Regional Native Public Defense Corporation, Northwest Indian OIC, Anishinabe Legal Services, Indigenous Environmental Network, Family Advocacy Center-NCHS, Bemidji Area Indian Center, People's Church.
