As the ACLU’s Minnesota affiliate (ACLU-MN), our work as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with more than 25,000 local members includes protecting the civil liberties of all Minnesotans through litigation, community engagement, and lobbying. Applications are open for an ACLU-MN Legal Department law clerk to assist in our work.
Position:
School-year law clerk
Responsibilities will include:
- Legal and non-legal research, analysis, and writing
- Evaluate and investigate requests for legal assistance
- Process (draft, submit, and track) data requests
- Assist with preparing for meetings and presentations
- Other advocacy and litigation-related tasks as assigned
Desired qualifications include:
- Completion of second, or at least first, year of law school
- Excellent legal and non-legal communications (written and oral) skills
- Demonstrated interest in social justice issues and/or commitment to protecting and advancing civil rights
- Eagerness and ability to work with diverse populations
- High degree of professionalism and emotional intelligence
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and information-gathering skills; and some computer, technology, and social media skills

Anticipated Schedule:
Approximately 10-12 hours per week
Flexible schedule with specific, regular office hours
