As the ACLU’s Minnesota affiliate (ACLU-MN), our work as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, with more than 40,000 local members, includes protecting the civil liberties of all Minnesotans through litigation, public education, and lobbying. The ACLU-MN’s legal department needs law clerks to assist in our work.

Position: Law Clerk

Responsibilities will include:

  • Legal and non-legal research, analysis and writing
  • Evaluate and investigate requests for legal assistance
  • Process (draft, submit and track) data requests
  • Assist with preparing for meetings and presentations
  • Other advocacy and litigation related tasks as assigned

Desired qualifications include:

  • Completion of second, or at least first, year of law school
  • Excellent legal and non-legal communications (written and oral) skills
  • Demonstrated interest in social justice issues and/or commitment to protecting and advancing civil rights
  • Eagerness and ability to work with diverse populations
  • High degree of professionalism and emotional intelligence
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and information-gathering skills; and some computer, technology, and social media skills

Anticipated Schedule:

  • Fall semester and spring semester law clerks work approximately 8 to 12 hours per week, and summer break law clerks work approximately 20 to 25 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule with specific regular office hours

Salary:

  • Unpaid
