The ACLU and ACLU-MN filed a petition for review with Minnesota’s highest court Tuesday afternoon, seeking to end the disenfranchisement of more than 53,000 Minnesotans.

A federal judge on Friday ordered Minnesota State Patrol not to attack journalists, use chemical agents, seize gear, or otherwise hamper reporting. Yet from media reports, it’s clear that the State Patrol needs to do better. Last night, they did everything the court ordered them not to.

SAINT PAUL, MN - A federal judge ruled Friday evening that state law enforcement cannot attack or arrest journalists for covering the current protests. 

The ACLU of Minnesota filed a motion in federal court Wednesday for a temporary restraining order to stop law enforcement from attacking and harassing reporters covering the Daunte Wright protests.

The ACLU-MN wants to make it clear that Daunte Wright should be alive today, and just like George Floyd and Philando Castile, Wright is one of the countless Black men who would still be with their families and communities had police simply issued a citation.
