The American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota (ACLU-MN) seeks an Operations and HR Manager to join our team. This role is essential to ensuring the smooth functioning of our internal systems and supporting our mission to protect civil liberties.

Role Overview

The Operations and HR Manager supports administrative operations, IT systems, and human resources functions. This position ensures compliance, supports staff and interns, and fosters a positive and productive work environment. Based in our Minneapolis office, the role reports to the Finance Director.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate smooth daily office operations and vendor relationships (50+ vendors).
  • Manage office supplies, equipment, and facility needs in Minneapolis and Mankato.
  • Monitor HR/IT/Operations budgets and report variances.
  • Coordinate with ACLU National on operational and compliance matters.

IT Oversight

  • Maintain IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, and networks.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with IT policies.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and manage IT projects.
  • Serve as liaison to external IT service providers.

Human Resources

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Coordinate performance reviews and update employee handbook.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and manage payroll and benefits.
  • Collaborate with a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) on HR functions.
  • Support union negotiations and labor-management relations.
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and belonging in all HR practices.

Essential Skills

  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through.
  • Skilled in coaching, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Adaptable and open to new ideas and changing priorities.

Education and Experience

  • Certification or training in HR, IT, or related fields.
  • Experience in operations, HR, and IT support; nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with PEOs and collective bargaining is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT systems.
  • Commitment to civil liberties and the ACLU-MN’s mission.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Occasional travel for meetings and local purchases.

COMPENSATION RANGE: $70,000 - $75,000.

Benefits include medical and dental insurance, employer contribution to 401(k) plan, paid vacation, 16 paid holidays and sick leave, long-term disability, and life insurance.
